6 Underground is an upcoming American vigilante action thriller film directed by that master of the digital explosion and gravity-bending action, Michael Bay and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The film will see six billionaires who fake their deaths come together to fight crime and the leader of them is played by Ryan Reynolds. The release date announcement came from star Ryan Reynolds himself, 6 Underground is set to premiere on Netflix on Friday, December 13.
According to the official synopsis, “‘6 Underground’ introduces a new kind of action hero. Six individuals from all around the globe, each the very best at what they do, have been chosen not only for their skill but for a unique desire to delete their pasts to change the future. The team is brought together by an enigmatic leader (Ryan Reynolds), whose sole mission in life is to ensure that, while he and his fellow operatives will never be remembered, their actions damn sure will.”
6 Underground also stars Mélanie Laurent (Inglorious Bastards) as a CIA dark operative, Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) as a former Delta Force sniper, Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim: Uprising) as a former war doctor, Manuel Garcia Rulfo (The Magnificent Seven) as a hitman, Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody) as a parkour expert, and Dave Franco (Neighbors) as a getaway driver.
The trailer of the film was released by Ryan Reynolds October 1 and it featured some great stunt work. However, the story lies in the equation between the six billionaires-turned-vigilantes who are out to do some good in the world after having erased their memories from the past.
“The best part of being dead is the freedom,” Reynolds says in the trailer. “No policies or politics. We answer to no one. We could take out some truly evil people.” One leads the other five members into different situations of various levels of danger. It is unclear if he is even qualified to be doing all the things he is doing in the trailer which includes facing a grenade and coming out unscathed, though definitely scared. Each member seems invested in this idea of doing well for the world, and it will be interesting to see how things pan out.
