Medical Police: The Cool Crime Fighting Doctors
Medical Police is an action-packed comedy thriller series created by former Childrens Hospital executive producers Rob Corddry, Jonathan Stern and David Wain and co-executive producer Krister Johnson. The ten-episode series revolves around two Doctors, Lola Splatt and Owen Maestro (Erinn Hayes and Rob Huebel) who are now down in Brazil where they find themselves trapped in a conspiracy and decide to fix it. Medical Police makes its Netflix debut on Friday, January 10, 2020.
Adult Swim’s Childrens Hospital, a medical drama spoof where doctors are crime-fighting cops, ran for seven seasons wherein Hayes and Huebel starred on all the seasons. The show was nominated for eight Primetime Emmys over the course of its run, winning four, including outstanding short-form comedy series, and actor for Corddry. Medical Police is totally-not-a-spinoff of the beloved Adult Swim series.
In addition to Hayes and Huebel, the series also stars several other Childrens Hospital alums Lake Bell (In a World…), Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine), Ken Marino (The Babysitter) and Malin Akerman (Billions). Guest stars include Jason Schwartzman (Moonrise Kingdom) and Fred Melamed (A Serious Man) among others.
Here’s an official synopsis of the show, “From the inimitable team behind Childrens Hospital, Medical Police follows two American physicians (Hayes and Huebel) stationed at a pediatric hospital in São Paulo, Brazil who unwittingly discover a civilization-threatening virus. They’re soon recruited as secret government agents and find themselves in a race against time to find a cure, all the while uncovering a dark conspiracy at the center of the outbreak. Building on the legacy of its predecessor Childrens Hospital, Medical Police triples as an action-packed thriller, a mystery-wrapped love story and, ultimately, a globetrotting comedy series.”
Netflix has published a trailer on December 19 along with a short description, “From the creators of Childrens Hospital (starring Rob Huebel and Erinn Hayes) comes the totally-not-a-spinoff Medical Police (also starring Rob Huebel and Erinn Hayes.)” It further mentions, “Doctors Owen Maestro and Lola Spratt leave Children’s Hospital and join a secret arm of the CDC to investigate and destroy a deadly global virus.” Check out the hilarious trailer above.
