Amazon’s The Boys Season 2: Cast, Plot and More

The Boys is an American superhero web series based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The concept is unique and different from other existing deadly-serious superhero series. It is a blend of adult comedy and violence which is developed by Eric Kripke for Amazon. If you’ve watched the first 10 episodes you won’t be surprised to hear it’s one of the streamer’s most successful shows ever.

Season 1 of The Boys premiered on Amazon Prime Video on July 26, 2019, but a week prior to its official release, the series had already gotten the green light for a second season. Karl Urban, who plays anti-super vigilante Billy the Butcher, recently revealed filming has wrapped on season two – and that the new episodes will hit screens in mid-2020.

The Boys is set in a universe where super powered people are recognized as heroes by the general public and owned by powerful corporation Vought International, which markets and monetizes them. Outside of their heroic personas, most are arrogant and corrupt. The series primarily focuses on two groups: the Seven, Vought International’s premier superhero team, and the titular Boys, vigilantes looking to keep the corrupted heroes under control. The Boys are led by Billy Butcher (Star Trek star Karl Urban), who despises all super powered people, and the Seven are led by the egotistical and unstable Homelander.

Based on what’s shown in the teaser, it looks like the second season of The Boys will be even bigger, better, and bloodier than the first — opening on Homelander, his face freckled with blood after his split with Madelyn, then shifting to unspool a quick-paced montage of who (and what) is to come on the new episodes.

Much of The Boys season 2 story, will invariably deal with the aftermath of Homelander’s grand reveal, as well as charting the escape of Hughie, Frenchie, The Female, and Mother’s Milk now that they’re on the FBI hit list. Kripke, though, has also offered up a slightly more light-hearted tease of what’s to come, including an appearance by producer Seth Rogen.

“In season 2, we’re filming a movie within a [show] called Dawn of the Seven,” Kripke revealed to EW. “And we’re all talking about wouldn’t it be great if Seth was one of the main characters of that movie, he was like the Agent Coulson of the group? If his schedule is clear, we’ll do that.”

The majority of the cast are expected to return, including Karl Urban as Billy the Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, and Karen Fukuhara as The Female. However, a few new faces are expected to appear in season two. Giancarlo Esposito, best known for his role in Breaking Bad, guest-starred in the first season’s finale as Vought CEO Mr Edgar. The Hollywood heavyweight is expected to play a larger role in the future narrative.

You’re the Worst star Aya Cash will also be joining the show as Stormfront. Originally a male character, Stormfront is considered one of the major antagonists in the adult comic book series. With superhuman strength, flight and ‘electrokinesis’ on her side, Stormfront will be tough to match. Handing Cash the major role is a clear sign of how the series is keeping things modern.

Netflix has published a trailer on December 6 along with a short description, “The Boys returns on Amazon Prime Video in 2020. Watch the current seasons with your Prime Membership. The Boys is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven”, and their formidable Vought backing.” Check out the trailer above.
